CALGARY, Alta. Mar. 16, 2017/ Troy Media/ – Dealing with difficult tasks and focusing on tough problems for too long can quickly drain your energy. By lunchtime, you may already feel burnt out and tired. A good meal followed by a short break doesn’t always help replenish your energy. This condition often leads to lower effectiveness and difficulty in focusing on more tasks as you try to get through the second half of the day.
There are actually some leisure activities that can help you regain focus and be more positive about facing more tasks at work. We are going to take a closer look at some of the activities you can try in this article.
Read a book
One of the easiest and most effective ways of replenishing your energy at lunchtime is by reading a book; a fun one, to be exact. Have you read the latest Star Wars: Aftermath titles? Do you have a book that you’ve been meaning to finish for some time? Now would be the perfect time to give these books a try.
You can use a Kindle to make reading books a lot simpler. Since you can store plenty of books in a Kindle, you will have plenty of titles to go through. Besides, digital books are more affordable than their printed counterparts, so you can have more novels and books to read without spending a lot of money in the process.
The key is to read books you actually enjoy reading. Most fiction titles should work, but you can also opt for non-fiction books such as self-improvement guides or books about DIY projects.
It is also a good idea to spend 10 to 15 minutes on your own personal project before going back to work. Your project can be anything as long as you can take it to work without too much trouble. A colleague of mine started his own fantasy baseball blog and has been enjoying writing about his fantasy team. His blog now has more than 2,000 viewers a day and is starting to attract brands and advertisers.
A blog can be the perfect project to try, but it is certainly not the only one. You can experiment with a Raspberry Pi if you love electronics. You can also develop your own web application or take on street photography as a hobby.
Play team games
The last pastime activity you can try before going back to work is playing games. Certain games, especially those that involve teamwork or competition, work really well. These games help you focus on other things – such as the challenges you face as you try to defeat the opposing team – and will help take your mind off of work for a while.
Competitive games are also good for bringing back focus. By the time you have played two or three rounds, you will feel so much more refreshed and ready for any problem you have to face as part of your work. Just don’t get carried away with the games; your boss wouldn’t like seeing Overwatch on your laptop screen during workhours.
